The Youth Climate Council Global Alliance is a youth-led community aiming to raise ambition on climate
policy through collaboration.

Our goal is to establish institutional mechanisms for the youth climate movements across the world to meaningfully influence policy and strengthen organizational capacities through resource solidarity, providing an avenue for every young person, youth-led organization, and civil society to bring their opinions into climate-related decision-making processes..

Co-writing the Future:
international success
stories of youth
participation

At UNEP’s Stockholm +50 international meeting, the YCC Global Alliance held our first public event in partnership with the Dutch Youth Climate Movement on June 3rd 2022.

The side-event highlighted the experiences of young people and decision makers at different levels of governance with keynote remarks from Vivianne Heijnen, Minister for the Environment of the Netherlands.

Young leaders: Pius Ddumba (Girls4Climate Action, Uganda), La’eeqa Martin (Youth@SAIIA, South Africa) and Beatriz Pagy (Clima de Eleição, Brazil) shared their experiences participating in environmental governmental decision-making processes.

Decision makers: Reitumetse Molotsoane (National Business Initiative, South Africa) and Lucas Wosgrau Padilha (Environmental Secretary of Rio de Janeiro) shared what they have learned from the youth in their country and what advice they have for policy makers looking to promote youth participation in their countries.

Leveraging the experience of these leaders, the event highlighted the voices of young people from all over the world and thereby offered a stage to those that are often unheard.
